The game is based in the kingdom of Camelot, 600 years after King Arthur’s fall. It’s likely that the Elder Scrolls series inspired the franchise to a certain degree because you start your journey as a prisoner. You get to choose your archetype through a conversation during the initial section which starts in a prison. You’re not locked to these classes, so you can switch whenever you want to.

All Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon Archetypes and Classes Explored

Tainted Grail offers four major archetypes that you can choose from, and are further broken down into classes. Unlike most RPGs where you can choose your class from a menu, your answers in your first question will decide which archetype and class your character will lean towards during your play through.

How to Choose an Archetype in The Fall of Avalon

When you start Tainted Grail for the first time, a prison guard will talk to you and ask you what you were doing when the Red Shields arrested you in the forest. You can pick from one of the five options that you’re presented with.

This covers the four options that you’ll get while talking to the guard during the prison sequence in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon. No matter what you do, you can have only one active archetype and class active. However, if you’re looking to switch play styles, all you need to do is invest your character points in different attributes whenever you level up.

How to Become Classless in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon

Additionally, there’s a fifth choice that you can make during this first section, where you stay silent when the guard asks you his first and then his follow up question. If you stay silent both the times, you’ll be deemed as classless. For this archetype, you start with a clean slate and all your attributes have a 10 score. It’s a significant disadvantage compared to the other classes and archetypes in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon, but its a clean slate, so you can tailor it however you like.

Which Archetype and Class Is Best For You?

The answer to this question boils down to your preference. For example, if you’re used to RPGs and you’re comfortable with every build, you can just start out with the Classless. Although it’s similar to the Wretch from Elden Ring, you’ll have the option to diversify as much as you want.

If you’re looking for a melee class, always go with the Warrior and then the Infantry, because they’ve got the best stats in the house. If you want to pick up the Archer or Mage classes, it’s better you choose their own specific dialogue lines rather than going through the Warrior archetype in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon.
